Most survey respondents chose Belle from Beauty and the Beast as their favorite Disney Princess, which surprised me because I expected a more well-known princess like Ariel or Cinderella.
However, it was not surprising that Belle, Ariel, and Cinderella ranked highly, as they are some of the most iconic and heavily advertised princesses. I was also surprised that Mulan ranked third, since she is not always considered a princess and her merchandise is less popular than that of The Little Mermaid or Tangled. Merida, Rapunzel, and Tiana were less popular, which I expected because many people my age feel they have outgrown newer Disney films.
Snow White and Pocahontas received similar votes, which is ironic given their contrasting portrayals. I was shocked that Jasmine ranked near the bottom despite Aladdin’s success, though Aurora being the least popular was expected due to her passive portrayal.
